How to Avoid Rug Pulls: A Guide to Safety Filters

March 5, 2026 · 6 min read · SolSnipe Team

The Solana meme coin space is full of rug pulls and scams. When you're sniping new tokens automatically, having solid safety filters is the difference between making money and losing it. SolSnipe has four built-in safety checks that run before every buy.

Warning: Even with all safety filters enabled, sniping new tokens carries significant risk. Never invest more than you can afford to lose.

What is a Rug Pull?

A rug pull happens when the developers of a token drain all the liquidity or dump their holdings on buyers, causing the price to collapse instantly to near zero. On Solana, this can happen in seconds.

Most Solana rug pulls follow predictable patterns that can be detected on-chain before you buy. Safety filters catch these patterns automatically.

SolSnipe's Built-in Safety Filters

check_mint_authority

Checks if the token's mint authority is still enabled. If it is, the developer can create unlimited new tokens at any time, instantly diluting your holdings to near zero. Always enable this filter.

check_freeze_authority

Checks if the freeze authority is enabled on the token. With freeze authority, the developer can freeze any wallet holding their token — including yours — making it impossible to sell. Always enable this filter.

max_top_holder_pct

Checks the percentage of the total token supply held by the single largest wallet. If one wallet holds 30%+ of the supply, that holder can dump and crash the price at any moment. Recommended setting: 20% maximum.

min_liquidity_sol

Checks the initial liquidity in the pool. Very low liquidity pools (under 3-5 SOL) are almost always rug pulls — the developer can remove liquidity and disappear with minimal cost. Recommended minimum: 5 SOL.

Recommended Filter Settings

For most users, the safest default configuration is: mint authority check ON, freeze authority check ON, max top holder 20%, minimum liquidity 5 SOL. This will skip a lot of tokens but dramatically reduce your exposure to obvious scams.

What Safety Filters Can't Catch

Even with all filters enabled, some risks remain. Filters can't detect:

Safety filters significantly reduce your risk but don't eliminate it entirely. Always use position sizing you're comfortable losing.
